- Make sure you’re using lights that are UL Listed (Underwriters Laboratory). Just look for the UL symbol on the box before you purchase it.
- Before you use any of your old lights, check for cracked, frayed, or damaged wires and loose connections.
- If you replace a bulb, make sure you’re using the correct wattage. Never leave a socket empty and always unplug the lights before you replace the bulb.
- Only use lights and extension cords that are made for the outdoors, if it says interior use only, keep it in the house.
- When replacing old lights, make sure that you look for the energy saving lights with LED bulbs. Not only do they save on energy use, but the bulbs last longer too.
